A beautiful journey from the solo expatriate life in desert of UAE to the green lap of Idukki the beauty in kerala crossing ''Malangara Dam'','' Ila Veezha Poonchira, Nadu Kani '', ''Kulamavu Dam'', "Vellappara Cave- White Rock", "Kolumban Samadhi", "Hill View Park", "Cheru Thoni Dam", " Idukki Dam ", " Kalvari Mount", "Moonnar," Lakkam Water Fall", "Marayoor's Fruit Farm", "Jaggary Factory", "Anamudi National Park","Mattuppetti Dam", and etc,......
Whenever i as Keralite introduce about India, to any foreigners or arb guys who have not yet visited India, i would proudly speak with long tongue, explaining about the climate of Kerala, its serene nature , cultural diversity and its history connected to europe and arab countries. I would always take care of making kerala up among all other states of india with giving good projection to nook and corner of kerala, and keeping up its reputation. The main part of my narration with beautification about kerala tourism, touches around Idukki, that is giving a lot for speaking up to any keralites, i was damn sure that if any one who surfs through internet itself can see a lot of amazing pictures of Moonnar Hill Stations and such beautiful places but yet in reality , no pictures or videos can depict the real beauty of idukki and its serene nature, as it can only be with real experience and cannot be captured perfectly in any video or photo frames enough..
While travelling with school students in my teenage time ago, i had such a passion to go deeper freely around without any control of teachers at helm. Recently one of my friend who lives in idukki talked me about Davis Farm house ,which has been covered with sandal trees in the forest where wild animals are common with plenty of appearances, i decided to start my solo journey in my two wheeler
Idukki Gold
Idukki Gold is a name of very fine marijuana in Kerala. During my Travel, Idukki Gold, the popular ganja, the finest weed ,or the best marijuana had a pulse in my drive to lead me to the destination. The weed, Idukki Gold is cultivated inside the forest illegally at face of Kerala Government, gave me the fantastic feeling to keep me up in the mood.. hooolalaah.
If any weed lover if he wants to feel the real experience with good marijuana in world, can come and visit to Idukki where you can buy it with help of any local agent, during his journey through kerala, i am damn sure that it will give the best meditation and double or triple views of each corner of Idukki while sight seeing . But always be careful while you meditate, as consumption of weed or buying or keeping it in hand is illegal in india by law, if police catches you red handed, your life might be suffering and your journey might be spoiled too.
Ila VeezhaPoonchira
Poonchira means ''flower dam'' and Ila veezha means "No falling of Leaves ". This name was derived from the peculiarity of the dam's stand as it is located in the middle of four hills where there are no any trees to drop leaves. Actually Ila Veezham Poonchira is part of Kottayam District of Kerala but if you travel from Kottayam City to there , it is 55 km far. But it is easy for you if you travel from Thodupuzha of Idukki District, with drive of 20 km, you can reach to Ila Veezha Poonchira. you just need to travel from Thodupuzha to the side of Moolamattam, where from, you can get to Kanjar Village, drive to the right side , for around 7 km, you will get to Ila Veezham Poonjira, that is 32000 feet higher from sea level.
Illikkal Kallu
"Illikkal kallu is very tallest mountain peak very closer to Ila Veezha Poonchira located at Thalanadu Panjayath in Eerattu Petta of Kottayam District. This is a starting point of Meenachil Aru. Illikkal kallu is made up with three big rocks. The tallest rock in them is named as "Koodakkallu". The rock in shape of sneak standing closer to the tallest one is called as "Koonakkallu". Behind this rock, there is a small gap in the depth of 20 feet between the both rocks. And there is a small part of half feet in the rock named as "Naraka Palam, or Hell Bridge". The sight has got very good similarity to Golden Rocks in Kodaikanal. It is very beautiful to see sunset and sun rise in Arabian ocean while standing on the top of Illikkal Kallu.
you can see in the above picture, the beauty of Meenachil Aru, and its far behind, Illikkal forest in the figure of a human opened mouth. The fog in Illikkal kallu is too much. it is better that you should have a jacket while you decide to hike or travel to the peak of Illikkal Forest. Riding bike through the offroad with a feeble view because of fog, where big rocks and slippery stones are threatening our each move , is not such easy but very adventurous and a bit dangerous too. you will feel like very touch while you ride your motor cycle in some extent.
but yet, i have been safely reached in to the spot of wireless station. In the time without Fog, you can see the districts of Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam well far away amazingly beautiful than heaven.
Idukki Dam
The first Arch Dam in Asia , Idukki Dam was inaugurated by The Prime Minister Indira Gandi on February 12 of 1976, with the purpose for producing Electric power. With connecting "Kuravan Forest" topped 839 meter to " Kurathi Forest" topped with height of 925 meter, Idukki Dam was built in the height of 555 feet across Periyar River. It is wonderful scene to watch the beauty of Idukki Dam remembering the horrific story of building the dam with help of 1500 workers ,that 85 men had died during the construction work. Idukki was discovered by W J John who was superintendent in Malangara Estate in 1932, when he reached there for hunting. He met Kolumban an aborigine in Kuravar Tribe. Kolumban showed him , Kurathi Forest, and thus Periyar River captured the attention of Mr John with giving an idea for utilizing the water resourse to generate electric Energy. Later Mr John submitted the report of opportunity to utilize the resource, with support of his brother who was an engineer.
you can see the wonder of Idukki dam while watching its beautiful scenes surrounded with hills and reens. the arch dam is 168.9 meter in height. Cheruthoni Dam and Kula Mavu Dam are also very closer there to save water resource.
As a monument of the history, you can see the Statue of Kolumban who was a pioneer of constructing Idukki Dam, there at entry to Idukk Dam.
Cheru Thoni Dam is 3900 feet higher than sea level. You can enter in to the top of cheruthoni and Idukki dams only during the time of Onam Festival and Christmas. Otherwise, you will have to take special permission from authority for entry.
Kulamavu Dam is a very beautiful dam that saves water for Idukki Irrigation scheme, other than Cheruthoni Dam and Idukki Dam.Kulamavu Dam is located on the way between Idukki and Thodu Puzha. I traveled there walking through Kolumban Samadhi and Hill View Park and enjoying the beauty of the serene nature well. "Vaishali Cave" is located between Idukki Dam and Cheru Thoni Dam. When you walk through the zigzag road to the top, you can see very beautiful Vaishali Cave.
Kalvari Mount
After enjoying the beauty of Idukki, i traveled around 12 km away to the route of Kattappana for reaching to Kalvari Mount. Fog, breeze, green patch, Tea plants, and the serene nature are the specialty of Kalvari Mount that had often been shot for many malayalam super hit movies like charlie , Maheshinte Prathikaram, and Idukki Gold. The most attractive scene here is the beautiful visibility of Idukki Dam. Here you can find very comfortable guest house in daily rent of 1500 indian rupees.
After enjoying the stay in Kalvari Mount, next day, i traveled to "Moonnar" passing through the beauty of Thadiyampadu, Churuli, Kallar Kutti, Chenkulam Dam...
Lakkam Water Fall
60 km of drive, you can reach to Moonnar. After spending time near Lakkam Water Fall to enjoy the water fall and the hot bath scene of foreign European ladies in bikini. A beautiful German lady named Sarah, caught my eyes and we flirted each other for a while joking on my stare to her exposure. She expressed her wish to join with me for the rest of my journey as we fell in friendship too quickly, but i refused her request because i cannot wait for someone. So after one hour , saying good bye to the amazing friend, i moved towards Davis farm house in Marayoor. Before getting to Marayoor, 2 km drive through Sandal Forest is an amazing experience for a solo traveler.
In case, you may be lucky to see the wild animals and birds. i have got the chance to see Deer and Peafowls while driving my motor cycle to Davis Farm House.
Marayoor
While travelling to Jaggary Factory, it is a common scene that any wild animal or birds appear in front of you. i liked the appearance of a little monkey that was looking at me like its relative. i felt very happy to see it and so i tried to take a pic of the host but the harame Monkey ran away while i took out my camara from Bag with much effort. The very good staff of jaggary Factory introduced me how they are making jaggary from Sugar Cane.
I bought 2 kg of Jaggary alone because as a solo traveler, i cannot carry much weight in my bag and i was sure that i bought it for giving as gift for a school kid who looked like unhappy because he could not buy it.He did not receive it from me till his teacher gave permission to him for it. I took only two pieces for eating there while walking through the corners and i thus returned back to Davis Farm House.
Anamudi Peak
Anamudi means The forehead of Elephant, perhaps because it resembles the forhead of an Elephant. The entry to Anamudi forest is prohibited for tourists because there are very dangerous wild animals like leopard and bears in the forest. Anamudi Peak is named as Everest of Sauth India. For my luck, i become familiar with a team of young men in Davis Farm House. They took me as their friend very quickly. They had come up with a Mahindra Thar. With their kindness and friendliness enjoying weed and alcohol together, they agreed happily to take me with them for the journey to Anamudi, But indeed, after drive of some hours, we returned back. The driver Dude was really skillful to conquer the slippery road to Anamudi. I damn sure that normal offroad drivers cannot reach their with pajero or any other offroad vehicles without having very good driving skill and very good offroad vehicle with good condition.
